This is the BEST thing I’ve done FOR MYSELF!

For more than 20 years, Marijo Lovstrom had struggled with her weight. It wasn’t for lack of trying. “My weight went up and down most of my adult life. You name the book, diet plan, or medical treatment – if it was advertised on TV, I was ready to sign up.” But despite diet plans, pills, and shots, her weight increased and her daily life became more restricted.

When she reached 329 pounds, she had high blood pressure, had one knee joint replaced and was facing surgery on the other knee. Difficulty moving meant she couldn’t participate in many activities. Even flying required a first class ticket and a seatbelt extender. Finally, Marijo knew she needed to make a change.

In April 2007, she had Lap Band surgery performed as an outpatient procedure at Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital. “The program staff was great. The psychologist helped me understand I was an emotional eater who was taking care of everyone but myself. I also attended the pre-op classes and the support group.” Four months following the surgery, she had lost 60 pounds.

“The Lap Band is a great tool for weight loss. Now I eat right and in smaller quantities. I put myself first and make exercise a priority. I have a treadmill at home and go to the fitness center for water aerobics. My goal is to break a sweat twice a day.”

Marijo says her life is much better now. “I am already down three dress sizes and my weight is continuing to drop. Two months after surgery, I flew without a seatbelt extender. I stand taller and people treat me differently. I go on dates, dance, and can sit comfortably at a movie. Before, I was worried about whether I was going to live. Now I have a real life. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I paid for the surgery and it was worth every penny.”
